There were just 33 airfrosts (7th fewest) and 87 ground frosts recorded.
Rainfall was 105% of normal, with 202 raindays, 147 wetdays and 62 verywetdays (9th highest, about 10% above normal).

April 20mm and October 34mm were especially dry months , while wettest months were September with 100mm and December with 124mm. Wettest day was 28.2mm on 26/12/17.Snow fell on 7 days, the majority 31.4cm falling between 8th and 11th Dec (most in one day was 12cm on 10th Dec).

January statistically was a little cooler and a little wetter than normal.
However it experienced quite mild temperatures 6^th -10^th, and at the end of the month, but very cold 5^th-6^th and 24^th-28^th. It was also very wet at times, 14^th-16^th and 27^th onwards, but virtually dry 17^th-26^th.
With pressure remaining high throughout most of the month, the 6^th highest mean pressure was recorded.
Quite breezy at times, especially 11^th-13^th.

So in reality it was mixed. It certainly felt pleasantly mild almost springlike at times, but bitterly cold feel at others especially with the wind. But averaged out, no monthly records were broken, most parameters ranking midway in the 62 years of records held here.

A mild February, especially so 12^th-26^th, although cooler at the beginning and end of the month. The mean was exceeded by at least one degree in 1998, 1990, 2011 and 2002.  While the MeanMax was not exceptional, the MeanMin was within a degree of the record high in 2011, ranking 6^th.
Air frosts were recorded only on 5^th and 6^th, but 14 days saw ground frosts, every day from 4^th to 15^th, also 24^th and 28^th.
Rainfall slightly above normal, well spread across the month with brief respite 9-10^th and 17-20^th. Wettest days were 27^th with 8mm, 22^nd with 7.5mm, 6^th and 28^th with 7mm.
Windy 2-3^rd and 20-27^th, although the highlight was on 23^rd with storm Doris bringing peak gusts of 61mph, while pressure dropped to 986.3mb at 0930 and 1000 .
A few sunny days were had particularly on 4^th, 7^th, 13^th and 24^th.

Statistically a mild winter, the mean temperature being 1.0degC higher than normal.
MeanMax was 0.8degC higher and Mean Min 1.2degC higher than normal.
Rainfall was 84% of normal, and while RainDays were slightly higher, WetDays and VeryWetDays were both slightly lower than normal.

Looking month by month, there was quite a variation in the make up of  Winter.
Dec and Feb were +1.5degC and 1.4degC milder than normal, Jan 0.4degC cooler.
While Dec was very dry, Jan and Feb were wet months

March was a pleasantly very mild month, ranking 4^th mildest, with the mean min 2^nd. Particularly mild between 8^th-29^th and 25^th-31^st.

Rainfall was again above normal, most falling 1^st-7^th, 19^th-22^nd, and 28^th (accompanied by a brief thunderstorm).

Many days had useful of sunshine, exceptions were 3^rd, 11^th, 16^th, 18^th, 29^th.

Wet month, rain spread right across it, with record number of wet days and 5^th equal number of very wet days. Heaviest rainfall fell on 18^th then 5^th then 11^th, 27^th and 30^th.
Sunniest days were 13^th,2^nd, 1^st,19^th and 22^nd. Dullest days were 25^th, 21^st, then 3^rd, 10^th and 16^th.   Windiest days were 11^th-13^th, then 20^th-23^rd.

October was milder and drier than normal, temperatures above normal until 27^th, with ground frosts recorded on 30^th and 31^st, and a slight air frost on 30th. 
It was the 9^th driest month in 62 years here, recording 34.4mm, just 42% of normal. Most rain fell on 19^th and 20^th. The first half of the month had more sunshine, while dullest days were 18^th ,19^th and 21^st then 24^th and 26^th. Windiest days were 15^th to 17^th, and 22^nd. 
The 16^th produced the strongest winds as storm Orphelia passed, and Saharan dust gave eerie orange sun in late morning.

November was 0.5degrees cooler and slightly less wet than normal, although it suffered more ground frosts than usual, many days had some rain although half the month’s rain fell in early hours of 4^th, during 7^th and the evening of 10^th.
The month started being milder, then turned cool, then milder and finished with cold few days. Sunniest days were between 3^rd and 10^th, dullest 20^th-22^nd. The windiest day was 22^nd. Two mornings were foggy, 18^th and 20^th.

December was a very wet month, ranking 7^th in 63 years here, with 44mm rain falling 25^th-26^th,  31mm between 7^th and 10^th  (most of this falling as snow), and 16mm rain falling on 13^th-14^th.
Snowfall from 8^th to 11^th accumulated to a depth of 25cm, while a 1cm fall on 27^th soon melted. Most fresh snow fell during 10^th (12cm) and 11^th (11cm).
Although the mean temperature for the month as a whole was statistically “normal” for December, it varied considerably during the month, being mild 2^nd-7^th, cold 8^th – 16^th , mild again 17^th -  25^th, cold 26^th – 29^th, finishing the month mild once more. Ground frosts occurred 8^th –20^th and 26^th –30^th, air frosts 9^th – 13^th , 16^th – 17^th, and 28^th – 29^th.
It was windiest 6^th – 8^th, and 25^th – 31^st.
The sunniest day was 11^th, dullest 2^nd, 5^th, 6^th, 10^th and 17^th, and 9 other days had a reasonable amount of sunshine during the day.
