After a very cold and frosty start to the month, temperatures rose to normal levels after 11th, and overall the mean was 1.1 deg below normal.
While the month began almost dry, rain fell every day between 11th and 22nd, and the month's total rainfall was normal.
January brought the 16th coldest night here (-8.1 deg) in the last 53 years, the previous coldest being -9.9 deg in Jan 2002.
There have only been 3 years in the last 53 with a lower High Max temperature (in 1963, 1978 and 1979).
Both Mean and Highest Min temperatures rank 13th lowest in the last 53 years.
The most recent year with a lower January mean temperature was 1997 (with 2.1 deg).
Recent years with more January snow days were 2002 (with 5 days), 1997 (with 6) and 1996 (with 7). However snow amounts were quite modest, just 2.5cm falling overnight on the 5th, and only very light snowfall on 2nd and 6th.

A cold and snowy start to the month, with 7 snow days up to 10th (last exceeded in 1996), and having the lowest max temp of 0.2C on 2nd (the lowest since 1996).
A total of 16.5 cm of new snow was recorded in the month, only exceeded in 8 of the last
53 years here, although 26cm fell in 1991 and 27mm in 1996.
Total precipitation only 70% of normal almost all of this falling before 13th.
A dry and pleasantly mild second half of the month with max temps between 9C and 12C.
Statistically, temps for the month were "normal", although this hides the two distinctly
different halves of this February.

A very warm end to June reaching 28.8C on 29th with the third highest min of 17.7C on morning of 30th, making the mean for the month the 10th highest in 54 years here.
Rainfall totalled 99.0mm, the ninth wettest June in 54 years, mostly falling during the second week of the month, followed by two very dry weeks, bad news for my fruit and vegetables.
A 2 hour thunderstorm with spells of heavy rain on 29th added a welcome 21.4mm to the total.
Thundery also on 10th, with 13mm of rain falling in an hour and a half, and 27th with only light rain.
Overall, some pleasant sunny days but becoming uncomfortably hot and humid in the final few days of the month.

Generally a disappointing and quite un-summery month.
Although starting well, it turned into a cool and very wet July, the second wettest in the last 54 years, just exceeding 1988 and 1957 although far short of 2007.
Aggregated rainfall for Jan-July of 488mm ranks 9th, slightly below 2008 but well below 2007's 708mm at this point of the year.
21.4mm of rain on 29th from lunchtime onwards led to much surface water lying, and 18.3mm heavy rain fell during the later half of 19th.
Over 10mm fell on each of 11th, 16th and 26th.
Although maximum temperatures were depressed, this July still managed to rank the 15th highest max and the 17th highest mean temperature at the start of the month before they started to drop down to their
unseasonably low values.

Some brighter days but disappointing for August with many days remaining stubbornly cloudy for much of the time.
Mean temperature was 0.3C above normal (11th highest August mean in 54 years).
The mean min was 0.9C higher than normal while mean max 0.2C lower than normal.
A cool night on 29th, min temp 8.5C, but only 5.0C on my more exposed allotment site 2.5 miles away.
Quite a dry month (17th driest August), although interestingly the cumulative rainfall Jan to Aug now totals 534.2mm (the 18th wettest cumulatively) because of the higher rainfall in some earlier months.
Not the best end to summer weatherwise.

A mild and very dry month, staring with thunder and rain as ex-hurricane Danny passed over, then settling down to an uneventful mixture of dull days and a few more cheerful sunny days.
This month achieved the 6th highest September mean temperature (in 53 years of records), and the 3rd mildest night. This was the 6th driest September, about the same as 2002, while the most recent year with less rain in September was 1996. What a contrast to Sept 2008 with 123mm !
Pressure remained high, having the 8th highest mean pressure, and the 2nd highest max pressure for the month just exceeding 1986). The steady pressure drop between 0900 on 2nd and 0230 on 3rd was of interest, falling
by 19mb in 17 hours, with rainfall starting 1600 on 2nd until 0600 on 3rd.

Rainfall about normal, most falling on 6th, 31st, less on 15th and between 20th and 26th, leaving some useful dry days.
Just two ground frosts on 8th, with min tem 2.5C, and 13th with min 2.7C, and one foggy morning on 15th.

Cooler around the 9th and from 27th, but otherwise pleasant and untypically mild.
The mean temp 8.4C was the 2nd highest recorded for November in the last 53 years, beaten only in 1994. The low min 1.7C was notably the highest on record, although the high min only the 10th highest. The max temp has been 1.2C above normal, and the min temps 2.4C above normal so nights have been less cold than usual. Indeed the only brief ground frost seen was in the early hours of 9th, although it had cleared by 0900.
A wet month, with rainfall the 4th highest on record, just exceeding that of 2008.
The 26 rain days were only exceeded in 2002, and the 21 wet days were only exceeded in 1960, so soil has remained very wet, and humidity high.
Several windy days 18th - 20th. Notably mean pressure 997.7mb was 3rd lowest recorded, beaten only by 997.1mb in 1963.

A cold month overall having the 10th lowest December mean temperature here in the last 54 years, the coldest since 1996.
Although mild from 5th to 10th, mean temperatures were well below normal for the rest of the month,
especially between 18th and 24th.
Air frost occurred on 10 nights, and ground frost was observed on a further 6 nights.
Precipitation was 79% of normal, half of this falling before 10th.
Snow totalling 2.5cm fell on 3 days, but our locality was spared the problems experienced elsewhere, even though there were significant falls not too far away. Snowfall on 19th did not thaw until 26th.
It made a change having lying snow on Christmas Day, not seen since 1981.
