A mixed month! Statistically mean temps were 0.8C below normal, and mean max temps 1.5C below normal, although the month fell into three parts. It was mild and dry until 8th, cold 9th-25th with rain then snow 14th-23rd. Lying snow from 18th-25th, deepest was 21cm on 23rd, but thawed quickly 26-27th. Wet mild end to the month from 26th, with best sunny spells of the month, but very windy 29th-31st. A total of 16.5cm snow fell 20th-24th (the fifth highest) with accumulations up to 13cm by 24th, and >50% lying snow until 28th. April was a cool, breezy and dry month with the 5th lowest LoMax temperature recorded in 58 years here, and was the 8th driest. A cool start to the month with E/NE winds, temperatures recovering mid-month with a slight drop at the end of the month.The little rain that fell was between 11th-18th and 24th-28th. Windy mid-month. Many days had worthwhile sunshine. then July was a very dry and settled month until the early hours of 23rd when 38mm torrential rainfall and thunder arrived. Further significant rain fell 27th to 29th, with over 31mm on 27th. After three weeks anticipating a record dry month, the overall rainfall total was 104.8mm (179%, 8th highest in last 58 years). Mean temperature 19.7C was 2.8C above normal (3rd highest), the maximum recorded was 31.4C on 13th (6th highest), although it was hot or very warm from 7th onwards. Mean Max temperature was 25.9C (3rd highest, beaten only in 2006 and 1983). Lowest Minimum temperature was 9.6C (3rd highest). Thunder was recorded on 23rd (at 0430, 0700 and 0830) and thunder with small hail on 29th (at 1500). October was 1.8C milder than normal, having the 8^th highest Mean, the 4^th highest LoMin and the 7^th highest HiMin temperature in 58 years of records. Especially mild from 1^st-9^th. A new record for rainfall, 169mm is the highest I have recorded for October here, 206% of normal. Very wet from 11^th-28^th, the most falling was 24.5mm on 22^nd following 16.8mm on 21^st. Few really sunny days, 6^th and 24^th delivering a worthwhile amount of sunshine. Windy periods 9^th and 21^st-23^rd. There was a pressure drop of 12mb in 6hrs in the early hours of 28^th to 977.6mb as the “big storm” tracked across the south of England, although here we were spared damaging winds, although 26mm of rain fell. Aggregate rainfall from Jan to Oct is 816mm, now the 4^th highest on record for these months. Both Mean 5.9C and MeanMax 8.8C rank 5^th highest. Both LowMax 5.3C, and LowMin –0.1C are the highest on record here, just beating 2011 values. A brief air frost on 26^th, but only just, -0.1C. Ground frosts 5-6th, 11-12th, 17-20th, 23rd, 25-30^th. Rainfall 103.3mm is 9^th highest (143% of normal). Wettest days were 24.5mm on 23^rd, 14.5mm on 18^th, 9.0mm on 26^th, 7.5mm on 21^st and 7.5mm on 31^st.
